Immersion in a Textile Community
Kutch, Gujarat, India, 2025

She traveled to Gujarat to visit several of the region’s textile communities, who work with organic kala cotton and natural dyeing. In each village, she met artisans who cultivate, spin, and weave kala cotton, a resilient, rain-fed fiber native to the region.

Their practices are rooted in sustainability and lived tradition. From manually operating wooden looms to preparing natural dyes extracted from local plants, every stage of the process revealed a delicate balance between skill, patience, and respect for nature. Through this experience, she gained a deeper understanding of how textiles can embody culture, ecology, and identity.
